Hindu Kush: An Ancient Herb
Hindu Kush seeds produce a gorgeous plant with long leaves and bright green throughout. You can also see amber and orange hairs mixed into the dense, sticky, resin covered buds. When dried and harvested, the buds turn a darker green and when broken apart will fill your sinuses with a skunky, earthy aroma that is super strong. Hindu Kush is the parent strain to many other cannabis strains. While Hindu Kush doesn’t have any major awards to its name it is responsible for strains that have taken home some pretty impressive awards in multiple categories all over the world. Growing Hindu Kush seeds to harvest is easy and it is the perfect strain for beginning growers.
Growing Tips for Our Seeds
Hindu Kush seeds perform best in conditions that are similar to the climate of the mountain range where these seeds originated. They grow best, whether indoors or outdoors, in a dry, warm environment. They love light and fresh air and although they are short they tend to spread out so the plants will need ample room to grow laterally. The long leaves reach like fingers across the growspace and soak up every ray of sunshine and light provided. There are some tips to follow to ensure you make it from germination to harvest without any issues.
Dial in Your Growing Conditions
- Indoor or Outdoor: Hindu Kush grows well indoors and outdoors preferring lots of light and air circulation to grow to its peak. The ideal temperature for these plants is a between 68-75 degrees fahrenheit. Using an 18 hours of light and 6 hours of darkness will get you through the vegetative stage. Changing it to 12/12 will trigger flowering.
- Moisture control: The Hindu Kush strain requires moderate humidity levels between 55-65% during the vegetative stage. Lowering the humidity slightly to between 45-55% while in the flowering stage. The strain is also renowned for its high resistance to mold, mildew, common pests, and diseases.
- Training Techniques: Since these plants are small, they react well to the Sea of Green (SOG) method. Created in the 1980s the SOG method maximizes yields in a limited grow space.
The Germination Game Plan
Before you even plant your Hindu Kush female cannabis plants, you will first need to germinate these seeds. To do so, refer to our free germination guide, knowing that they are backed by our impressive 90% germination guarantee.
Yields, Flowering Time and Harvest
- Flowering Time: With indoor grows you can expect the HK strain to harvest after a short flowering stage of 45-55 days. Outdoor growers should anticipate harvesting anytime between late September and early October. Once the majority of the hairs on these buds turn orange, it is time to harvest!
- Yields: While Indoor yields are around 350 grams per square meter, outdoor grows typically produce up to 400 grams per plant.
Dominant Terpenes in Hindu Kush: A Bud as Old as Time
The Hindu Kush terpene profile is directly responsible for how the plant smells, tastes and the strong effects it has on its users. The most dominant terpene in this strain is limonene, while caryophyllene and pinene are the secondary terpenes.
- Limonene: Most Dominant – Subtly uplifting. Known for a strong citrus aroma.
- Caryophyllene: Secondary Terpene – One of the few terpenes that can actually act as a cannabinoid.
- Pinene: Most Plentiful Aromatic Terpene – Protects plants against bugs and fungal infections.
Dominant Cannabinoids in Hindu Kush:
Cannabinoids play an important role in Hindu Kush seeds and are generally a huge part of most cannabis strains. That happy, relaxed and sleepy feeling you get when using the Hindu Kush strain is due to its dominant cannabinoids. Each cannabinoid does something different to the user.
- THC: The Main Character – THC is the most dominant cannabinoid on the molecular level of this strain. The crystalline compound tetrahydrocannabinol is the main ingredient of cannabis. Topping out at 18%, the THC in the Indica strain is responsible for the chill and sedated feeling you get with Hindu Kush.
- CBD: Very Minimal Amounts – While the CBD levels in HK are less than 1% the cannabinoid is still present. CBD plays a smaller role in what the strain does to the user. CBD is non-psychoactive and can produce effects that help with anxiety, sleep and even stress. The CBD in the Hindu Kush strain, even in its low amounts definitely has a positive effect on the user.

I love the leaf-to-bud ratio on this strain. It makes the trimming process a breeze since there are so few leaves to remove. More weight in the jars.

This was my second attempt at a photoperiod grow and it went far smoother than expected. Seeds popped evenly and growth stayed predictable week after week. I appreciated how resilient the plants were when I experimented with training methods. Overall a very satisfying grow journey.

I am impressed with the lateral strength of the branches. Even without a trellis, the plants held their shape perfectly under the weight of the flowers.

These Hindu Kush autos are genetic powerhouses. I witnessed taproots emerging in under 24 hours. The initial vegetative speed was staggering, with the plants developing thick stems and lush foliage by week three.
