Chemdog #4
Originally bred somewhere on the California/Oregon border by Greg “Chemdog” Krzanowski in the 90s, legend has it that Greg paid for some quality bud at a concert and that bud eventually became the Chemdog strain of cannabis. What we definitely do know about the strain is that it is tasty and the taste and aroma mirror each other. The combination of citrus, pine and a dash of lemon wood will dance across your senses. The strain leans slightly towards the Indica side but won’t knock you out or leave you feeling overly relaxed. While not intense, the effects are still well worth it. If we were to do a DNA test on the Chemdog #4 strain you would find both Nepalese and Thai Sativa within its genetic makeup.

Chemdog #4: Beware of Dog
Chemdog #4 seeds produce flowers that are green and lavender with tall buds that seem to reach for the sky when growing. The strain features a potent amount of THC that produces a clear headed high that users really engage with. The short growing cycle and massive yields are also favorable to growers and users alike. Chemdog #4 also has a pretty impressive resume with awards such as a win at the IC 420 Grower’s Cup as well as being notice as a High Times Top 10 Strains of the Year in 2006. This not only shows that growers absolutely love growing this strain, but that the cannabis community as a whole recommends these seeds and recognizes their popularity internationally.
Growing Tips for Our Seeds
Growing Chemdog #4 is not for the faint of heart. It is recommended for master cannabis growers and can be difficult to grow both indoors and outdoors. The most noticeable obstacle when growing this strain will be this plant’s massive size, typically growing to a colossal seven feet tall. While Indoor growing will limit this a bit, the plant’s inclination for vigorous growth makes it difficult to manage. Not only does it require ample head room to grow, it also takes a steady hand and tons of patience to bring this plant to fruition. It has a preference for temperate, Mediterranean and continental climates, you need to live in a specific environment for outdoor grows and really need to dial in your growing conditions indoors.
Dial in Your Growing Conditions
- Indoor or Outdoor: Chemdog #4 grows well indoors and outdoors with it needing tons of space to grow successfully. The ideal temperature for these plants is between 70-80 degrees fahrenheit. The plants need 18-20 hours of light per day to promote vigorous growth.
- Moisture control: The Chemdog #4 strain requires humidity levels between 40-50% during the initial vegetative phase. Reducing the humidity level to around 30-40% during the flowering phase.
- Training Techniques: Chemdog #4 plants respond to Low-stress training like topping. These techniques encourage lateral growth by trimming the topmost growing tip. You can also tie or bend the tops. Both techniques will encourage bud growth and make sure that light reaches every level of the plant throughout the growing process.
The Germination Game Plan
Before you even plant your Chemdog #4 female cannabis plants, you will first need to germinate these seeds. To do so, refer to our free germination guide, knowing that they are backed by our impressive 90% germination guarantee.
Yields, Flowering Time and Harvest
- Flowering Time: With indoor grows you can expect the Chemdog #4 strain to harvest after a flowering stage of 60-70 days. Outdoor growers should anticipate harvesting in October.
- Yields: While Indoor yields are around 800 grams per square meter, outdoor grows typically produce up to 800 grams per plant. Both yields are massive which is indicative of the plant’s giant size.
Dominant Terpenes in Chemdog #4: Citrussy Diesel
The Chemdog #4 terpene profile is directly responsible for how the plant smells, tastes and the strong effects it has on its users. The most dominant terpene in this strain is caryophyllene, while myrcene, and humulene are the secondary terpenes.
- Caryophyllene: Most Dominant – Spicy notes. The only cannabis terpene known to act as a cannabinoid.
- Humulene: Secondary Terpene – Hoppy scent and flavor profiles. Features antibacterial effects.
- Myrcene: Distinct Flavors and Aromas
Dominant Cannabinoids in Chemdog #4:
Cannabinoids, although present in the background, play an important role in Chemdog #4 seeds and are generally a huge part of cannabis strains. That happy, euphoric and relaxed feeling you get when using Chemdog #4 is due to its dominant cannabinoids. Each cannabinoid does something a little different.
- THC: The Main Character – THC is the most dominant cannabinoid on the molecular level of this strain. The crystalline compound tetrahydrocannabinol is the main ingredient of cannabis. Topping out at a massive 22%, the THC in the Indica-dominant hybrid is responsible for how sleepy, relaxed and comfortable you feel after using.
- CBD: Very Minimal Amounts – While the CBD levels in Chemdog #4 are less than 1% the cannabinoid is still present. CBD plays a smaller role in what the strain does to the user. CBD is non-psychoactive and can produce effects that help with anxiety, insomnia and even stress. The CBD in the Chemdog #4 strain, even in its low amounts definitely has an affect on the user.

High resin content. The flowers are literally dripping with crystals by harvest time.

Discreet billing. The charge on my credit card was very generic and didn’t mention seeds.

I liked Chemdog #4 because it felt more social and engaging than many indica-leaning strains I have tried. The effect stayed clear enough that I could enjoy conversation and stay present, while still bringing a calm body feel underneath. The citrus and pine aroma is especially appealing, and the lemon-wood note gives it something a little more refined and memorable.
